Quick Start Guide
Purpose of the beem app
The beem app offers comprehensive protection against cyber threats, more privacy online and secure access to company data and business applications.
Connected to the beemNet everywhere
With the beem app, you can easily connect your smartphones, tablets, Macs and PCs to the beemNet from anywhere whether you’re on third-party networks, working from your home office, or using public WLAN. This means your data connection is encrypted throughout, allowing you to surf the Internet anonymously with your device and therefore stay better protected against targeted cyber-attacks and social engineering. The beem app enables data streams in beemNet to be analysed and harmful content to be blocked. As a result, you benefit from comprehensive protection against harmful websites and malware such as phishing, viruses, and ransomware.
Push notifications and security dashboard
In the beem app, the user receives instant push notifications and gets access to a personalized, cross-device security dashboard that reports on blocked content and averted cyber incidents. This data is viewable only by the user, while the company can access anonymized, aggregated statistics.
Automatic beem app deployment – let device management do the work
If your beem administrator requires devices to be managed for certain client operating systems, please follow the steps outlined in the device onboarding documentation. The beem app is automatically installed as part of the device onboarding process. As a result, you can continue directly with Step 3 in the list below.
Setup steps
Download the beem app
You can download the beem app for iOS and iPadOS from the Apple App Store in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and France. For Android devices, the app is available via the Google Play Store in the same countries. For macOS and Windows, use this download link. For detailed information on system requirements and supported operating systems, please refer to this link.Installation process
For Windows and macOS, an installation program will guide users through the setup. Once installation is complete, users launch the beem app to get started. For iOS, iPadOS, and Android, the app provides a guided onboarding process after the initial authentication. To ensure proper functionality, grant the requested permissions to the app. The only optional permission is location access. The beem Essential Security Edition will never use your location. However, for other beem Security Editions, your beem administrator may require location access to enable specific business applications.User login and authentication
Without authentication, there is no access to the beemNet. For users of the beem Essential Security Edition, authentication relies on an eligible Swiss mobile phone number. Any mobile number from a common Swiss provider that supports SMS reception may be used for authentication. For users of the beem Basic, Plus, or Premium Security Editions, authentication relies on a Swisscom Business Account or other login credentials provided by your company. The app will automatically prompt users to re-authenticate based on the frequency configured by your beem administrator.Connect to beemNet
Once authenticated, your device will automatically establish an encrypted connection to the beemNet and it may show a VPN icon. For users of the beem Essential and Basic Security Editions, the “Stay connected” feature is enabled by default, applying the “Always On” settings defined by Swisscom. If you are using the beem Plus or Premium Security Edition, the settings configured by your beem administrator will apply.Disconnect form beemNet
When the beem app is opened for the first time with default settings, the home screen displays a Disconnect from beemNet button. This button allows the user to temporarily disconnect from beemNet. After a few minutes, the app will automatically reconnect.
If the user prefers to manually control their connection to the beemNet, they can tap or click the settings menu icon ☰ (in the top-right corner of the home screen), then navigate to Connection details → Stay connected.
To disable automatic reconnection, the user can turn off the Stay connected option in the settings menu.Protection, privacy, and secure access to business applications
Once connected, your device is protected from online threats, and your browsing activity stays secure and private. Threats are automatically blocked—risky websites won’t load, and if an issue is detected while using an app, the user will receive an instant push notification. Users of beem Basic, Plus, or Premium Security Editions also benefit from secure access to business applications and company data. Access is controlled by smart, context-aware rules set by your beem administrator. These checks run continuously in the background, and if something doesn’t meet the security requirements, the user will be notified immediately, and access to the application may be paused or blocked.User Logout and Authentication
To log out, navigate to ☰ → Logout. This will allow you to re-authenticate with the same or a different account or mobile phone number. Logging out will reset the app, and all custom settings—both user-defined and beem administrator -defined —will no longer apply. Each new login applies the default configuration defined by your beem administrator. Users are not advised to log out unless necessary. While logged in, the beem app will periodically prompt for re-authentication.
TIP
When you're protected by beemNet, there may be times when certain websites, features, or mobile apps are not accessible. If your beem administrator uses Swisscom templates, this is not censorship. The content may be blocked because it's flagged as potentially harmful—or it could be a false alarm. If you believe something is blocked by mistake, please contact your beem administrator or report it to Swisscom using our feedback form.
The feedback form will be available soon—please check back shortly!
INFO
Note that only beem Protect & Connect user licenses include beem SIM cards, which provide direct access to the beemNet via the Swisscom mobile network. If other network interfaces, such as Wi-Fi, are inactive or already connected to beemNet, you're protected even without the beem app—including when roaming. In Switzerland, Swisscom always encrypts and protects your mobile connectivity. However, privacy and security may not be guaranteed abroad. Therefore, we recommend using the beem app when traveling internationally.
